About Bromley House Library

Bromley House Library was founded in 1816 as an independent lending library

Our collection of over 50,000 books, manuscripts, maps and other materials is spread over three floors of our beautiful Grade II* listed building, right in the middle of Nottingham’s city centre. The library is a comfortable place to read, work or socialise and new members are always welcome.

Our Vision

Our vision remains unchanged, over 200 years after we first began. Our mission is two-fold:

  • To enrich the lives of our users through access to our unique collection of books and other materials, and a community sharing knowledge, information and creativity.
  • To preserve the physical fabric of Bromley House, a significant historic building, for the benefit of the community.

Our vision is to be recognised as one of the key cultural, literary and heritage assets in Nottinghamshire.
